Reaching the level cap in World of Warcraft can take players a very long time, but dozens of players were able to climb from level 90 to the new level 100 level cap (brought in with the Warlords of Draenor expansion) within hours of its release on 13 November 2014. However the exact identity of the first player to reach this achievement is something of a mystery because the developers at Activision-Blizzard, who make World of Warcraft, removed the Realm First achievement for the new level cap of level 100. Owen Langdon (Items & Rewards Designer on World of Warcraft) described the move "what we believe is best for the game as a holistic entity". However, removing the achievement certainly did nothing to diminish the eagerness of some to hit level 100 as early as possible - many gamers sought to speed their progress by saving up items for XP rewards they could cash in as soon as the level cap was lifted - but keen-eyed Blizzard employees viewed this approach as an exploit and reduced gamers who were approaching the new limit back down to level 90 as soon as they were detected. While we may never know who got there first, we do know that before the end of Warlords of Draenor's launch day a number of servers had level 100 players thanks to the "/who 100" command revealing the identities of level 100 characters, but not the time they achieved their feat.
