MS Dhoni (India, aka Mahendra Singh Dhoni) has stumped more batsmen than any wicket-keeper in One-Day International (ODI) history, with 123 victims in 350 matches (345 innings) since 2004.
As of 15 November 2019, Dhoni had taken 321 ODI catches as a wicket-keeper to go with his 123 stumpings, with his 444 dismissals putting him third amongst all ‘keepers, behind Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (482 dismissals) and Australia’s Adam Gilchrist (472).
On 3 September 2017, Dhoni went past Kumar Sangakkara’s (Sri Lanka) previous-best total of 99 stumpings in 404 matches (353 innings), set between 2000 and 2015, when he made his 100th stumping in an ODI against Sri Lanka. Sangakkara retired from ODIs on 18 March 2015.
On three occasions, Dhoni made a hat-trick of stumpings in a single match, most recently against Sri Lanka on 11 July 2013.
Speculation is rife that Dhoni’s international career is over after India’s chairman of selectors, MSK Prasad, announced in October 2019 that they were “moving on” after the World Cup and “giving opportunities to youngsters”. Dhoni played his last Test match in December 2014, but was still active in ODIs and Twenty20 Internationals in 2019.
