Podkopayeva won the 1500 metres event meaning that she is also the oldest gold medallist at the World Indoors.
The only other medallist in his or her forties is Merlene Ottey who finished fourth in the 60 metres while running for Slovenia in 2003, but was reallocated the bronze medal after the retrospective disqualification of Zhanna Block. She was 42 years 308 days at the time.
