The Republic of the Children in La Plata Partido, Argentina, is the world’s largest theme park based on political ethics. Sometimes referred to as the City of Children, it is intended to instruct children in republican ideas, and consequently has 35 child-sized replicas of a parliament, church, court, civic centre, government house and other institutional buildings – which are variously based on the Doge’s Palace in Venice, Taj Mahal in India and Houses of Parliament in London. Covering 52 ha (128.49 acres), the park was officially opened on 26 November 1951 by the Eva Perón Foundation. According to local legend, Walt Disney visited the park and was inspired to create his own Disneyland. Once a year, on the anniversary of the founding of the Argentine Republic, members of the city council of the city conduct a special session to address the statements set forth by the Children's Government. There are also regular workshops on such things as environmental education and political rights.
