Newest poison dart frog

The world's newest species of poison dart frog officially recognized by science is Andinobates geminisae. Formally described and named as recently as September 2014, it is bright orange in colour, only as long as a human fingernail (12.7 mm long), and inhabits just a single hilly area within a rainforest in Panama, near the Caribbean coast. It produces an extremely toxic skin secretion, as do other poison dart frogs. But whereas some of these frogs' secretions are used by native rainforest-inhabiting tribes to tip their arrows or blowgun darts, making these weapons deadly to the creatures (or other tribes) that they hunt or attack, it is unlikely that this new species' toxin is used in this way, simply because the frog is likely to be too small to produce sufficient quantities for this purpose.
