The first racing series featuring only electric vehicles is the FIA-approved Formula E Championship running from 13 September 2014 to 27 June 2015. The Formula E Championship began in Beijing, China on 13 September 2014 and the championship includes nine rounds in total in four continents. Former Formula One drivers such as Nelson Piquet Jr. and Nick Heidfeld are participating in the inaugural season.
