On 7 November 2013, Wales launched an app which catalogued and allowed interactive access to all its archaeological date. ‘Archwilio’, the Welsh for ‘to examine’, was commissioned by all four Welsh archaeological trusts to allow the public access to over 100, 000 archaeological sites across the principality. An extension of the Archwilio website, the app allows users to view details, descriptions and photographs of site records on their smartphone. It also allows them to add additional information to existing site records- allowing amateurs to become directly involved in archaeological investigations.
