The wearing of wooden clogs in Taiwan has a history of several hundred years. Previously it has been taken as a sign of wealth and at other times as a practical agricultural footwear. The tradition cited by and associated with this record attempt is the wearing of wooden clogs after a day's rest at the end of a rice harvest to waken the farmers to return to the fields and prepare the next rice harvest.
The date of the record attempt was chosen here to coincide with the Dragon Boat Festival national holiday, though there is no historical link between wooden clogs and this festival.
