At 18 years 296 days, Nathan MacKinnon (Canada, b. 1 September 1995) of the Colorado Avalanche (USA) is the youngest National Hockey League (NHL) player ever to win the Calder Trophy as the league’s top rookie, awarded on 24 June 2014. The previous youngest winner was Jeff Skinner (Canada, b. 16 May 1992) who was 19 years 1 month 6 days when he captured the award playing for the Carolina Hurricanes (USA) on 22 June 2011.
Nathan achieved the longest point streak by an 18-year-old NHL player, scoring a point in 13 consecutive NHL games (5 goals, 13 assists) while playing for the Colorado Avalanche (USA) from 25 January 2014 to 6 March 2014. Wayne Gretzky (Canada), the NHL’s all-time leading scorer, had points in 12 consecutive games as an 18-year-old while playing for the Edmonton Oilers (Canada) from 9 December 1979 to 5 January 1980.
