This record was first set by Claude Provost (Canada) of the Montreal Canadiens (Canada), who scored just 4 seconds into the second period against the Boston Bruins (USA) on 9 November 1957. The same record was later matched by Denis Savard (Canada) of the Chicago Blackhawks (USA), who scored just 4 seconds into the third period against the Hartford Whalers (USA) on 12 January 1986.
