Most rapid pecking rate for a bird

The bird with the most rapid recorded pecking rate is the black woodpecker (Dryocopus martius). Native to mature forests throughout much of the Palaearctic Region, this crow-sized, red-crowned species has been recorded pecking trees at a rate of 12,000 pecks per day.
