Starfishes are not generally known for moving very swiftly, but the world's fastest species – the sunflower sea star Pycnopodia helianthoides – has been timed moving at a rate of 1 metre per minute, using its 16–24 limbs' 15,000 tube feet. This large, predatory species lives in the Pacific Ocean between Alaska and southern California.
