The largest prenatal yoga class at multiple venues involved 1,443 participants and was achieved by Harmonicare Medical Holdings Co. Ltd. (China) in various cities across China on 25 October 2015.
This record attempt lasted 36 minutes and was led by renowned prenatal yoga instructor Ms. Li Jianhui, an instructor with the FORKISS organisation. Prenatal yoga is a specialised, gentler form of yoga exercise and instructors with FORKISS must shadow a qualified instructor for at least a year before being qualified to teach on their own.
Mothers-to-be at 11 venues across China took part in this record attempt. Each venue had an instructor on a stage with all venues following Ms. Li via live video relay from the main venue, the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing.
Most of the participants at this record attempt had limited experience, typically 1-2 lessons, of prenatal yoga. The guidelines stipulate that all participants must be at least 12 weeks pregnant at the time of the attempt. The most advanced pregnancy of any of the participants was 36 weeks.
Prenatal yoga is growing in popularity worldwide and its advocates claim that its benefits include a healthier pregnancy and a quicker and less painful childbirth.
