Early arcade machines used simple logic-gates on printed circuit boards (transistor-transistor logic) to create the games they displayed. The original Gun Fight arcade machines designed by Taito for the Japanese and European markets used this technology. When Midway acquired the rights to publish the game in the USA, they completely redesigned the machine to incorporate the cheaper Intel 8080 microprocessor instead, making it the first arcade machine to use a microprocessor. The use of a microprocessor by Midway's Gunfight predates the use of the same technology in the Fairchild VES, later called the Channel F, which was released in August 1976 by Fairchild Semiconductor.
