Once fierce rivals in the 1990s, Sega and Nintendo have since patched up their differences and united their mascot characters in the crossover smash hit series Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. But the Sega-Nintendo tie-in was given a new twist when a Hyrule-themed level for Sonic Lost World (Sonic Team, 2013) was released for the Wii U. The Legend of Zelda Zone was released as free DLC on 27 March 2014 and sees Sonic explore Hyrule's fields and dungeons in Link's trademark green hat and tunic and swap rings for rupees.
