As the designer of the entire Gran Turismo series to date (Polyphony Digital, 1997–), Kazunori Yamauchi (Japan) is the longest-serving designer of any racing videogame franchise. Although the first Gran Turismo game was released in 1997, Yamauchi started working on it in 1992, so this is considered the start date for this record.

To date, Yamauchi has been the lead designer on 17 racing games, 15 of which were Gran Turismo games, from the core series to its variations – including GT7 slated for release in 2015/16, each one simulating a real-life driving experience. He also created Motor Toon Grand Prix (SCEI, 1994) and Motor Toon Grand Prix 2 (SCEI, 1996).
