First developed for the Apple II in 1971 by three teachers to help children understand life on the frontier, The Oregon Trail has been remade and released for multiple platforms right up until the present day, including the Nintendo Wii and 3DS, making the educational western adventure the world's longest-running single videogame. As of April 2014, it had sold 65 million copies in its 43-year lifespan.
