Sûpâ Mario burazâzu: Pîchi-hime kyushutsu dai sakusen! or Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! was a feature-length anime film released in Japan in 1986. Directed by Masami Hata and produced by Masakatsu Suzuki and Tsunemasa Hatano, the plot centres on Mario and Luigi, who are summoned to the Mushroom Kingdom to save Princess Peach from King Koopa.
The first live-action movie based on a videogame was Super Mario Bros., released in 1993 and starring Bob Hoskins as Mario and Dennis Hopper as King Koopa.
