Elisabeta won gold in the double skulls in 1984, silver in the doubles skulls and bronze in the quadruple skulls in 1988, gold in the single skulls and silver in the double skulls in 1992 and three more gold medals in the women's eight in 1996, 2000 and 2004. Elisabeta's haul of five gold medals also gives her the record for 'Most Olympic rowing gold medals won (female)', held jointly with fellow Romanian Georgeta Damian.
