The first female games programmer and designer was Carol Shaw (USA). She began her career at Atari, where she created 3-D Tic-Tac-Toe (Atari, 1978).
Carol Shaw later joined Activision, where she designed popular scrolling shooter River Raid (Activision, 1982) and puzzle game Happy Trails (Activision, 1983).
