The longest time to stop light is 3,600 seconds, and was achieved by a research team led by Chuan-Feng Li and Zong-Quan Zhou (China) at the University of Science and Technology of China, China, and published on 22 April 2021.

Chuan-Feng Li and Zong-Quan Zhou's team employed a zero-first-order-Zeeman magnetic field and dynamical decoupling to protect the spin coherence in a solid, and demonstrated coherent storage of light in an atomic frequency comb memory over 1 hour.
