“Ducks” are amphibious vehicles widely used in sight-seeing tours. The first ever duck tour company was established in 1946 by Mel Flath and Bob Unger (both USA) in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, USA. The original company has changed ownership since then, and today operates under the name Original Wisconsin Ducks. Flath’s family also owns another duck tour company, bearing the name Dells Army Ducks.
The "duck" has its origins in the "DUKW" military vehicles used in World War II. Their name comes from: "D" (designed in 1942), "U" (“utility”), "K" (front-wheel drive), "W" (six-wheel dual-driving axles).
