The most international cricket runs scored in a partnership is 12,899 and was achieved by Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara (both Sri Lanka) playing for Sri Lanka and Asia in 282 matches between 2000 and 23 August 2014. Sangakkara and Jayawardene usually bat at 3 and 4 respectively - their best partnership was for 624 runs (also a world record) in a test match against South Africa in Colombo on 27 July 2006. They are both currently playing together and will hope to reach 13,000 runs before the end of 2014.
