The most consecutive Athletics World Championships men's 10,000 metres gold medals won is four. This was first achieved by Haile Gebrselassie (Ethiopia) in 1993, 1995, 1997 and 1999. The feat was equalled by Kenenisa Bekele (Ethiopia) in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009. In total Haile Gebrselassie competed six times, winning a silver and bronze medal in the two championships after his four golds. Bekele won his first gold medal in 2003, pipping Gebrselassie by just over a second.
