Erik Weihenmayer (USA, b. 23 September 1968) was born with retinoschisis, an eye condition that left him totally blind by the age of 13. Despite this, he successfully climbed all of the Seven Summits, ending with Carstenz on 26 August 2008. Erik is also an accomplished rock climber, skier and paraglider.
The Carstenz Pyramid list, aka the Messner list, is considered the more demanding of the two Seven Summits lists. Weihenmayer had already conquered Koscuizko, part of the alternative Bass list for the Seven Summits, on 5 September 2002.
Weihenmayer is also the first blind man to conquer Everest .
