The entire Mali batting card consisted of 0 scores, with the exception of opener Mariam Samake’s single and five extras (2 byes, 2 leg byes, 1 wide). Mali Women took the title from China Women, who were dismissed for 14 runs against United Arab Emirates Women in Bangkok, Thailand, on 13 January 2019.
On 19 June 2019 at the same venue, Mali Women suffered their second crushing defeat in 24 hours after being bowled out for 11 runs by Tanzania Women. Once again, the match was over after just four balls of the reply.
A number of women’s teams were awarded full international status by the ICC (International Cricket Council) in April 2018, leading to a host of low scores by inexperienced sides competing at cricket’s highest level. As of 19 June 2019, Chile, Fiji, Hong Kong, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Mexico and Mozambique were among the teams that had contributed towards the 33 lowest scores in women’s T20I history since June 2018. Before that, the previous lowest total was Bangladesh Women’s 44 all out against Pakistan Women during an Asia Cup match in Bangkok, Thailand, on 30 November 2016.
