On April Fools’ Day 2000, Google perpetrated the MentalPlex Hoax. It invited users of its search engine to stare at an animated gif on its homepage and project a mental image of what they wanted to find on the world wide web. Google has maintained a copy of this site, which can be found at http://www.google.com/mentalplex/. The page has now been annotated to read: "Note: This page posted for April Fool's Day - 2000."
