Petrus Gonzales (of the Canary Islands, Spain) suffered congenital hypertrichosis lanuginosa and was taken to Paris, France, in 1557, to be educated at the court of King Henri II. He married a wife who did not share his medical condition, but had four children who did. At least one of them brought the abnormal hairiness into another generation. Petrus Gonzales displayed persistent growth of the lanugo hair.
