An estimated 500 million people in 27 countries watched the premiere of Michael Jackson's (USA) "Black or White" video on 14 November 1991. The 11-minute clip, directed by John Landis, reportedly cost $4 million to make.
The video features actors Macaulay Culkin and George Wendt, model Tyra Banks and cartoon characters Bart and Homer Simpson. Banks appears in a sequence in which people of different ethnicities morph into one another while dancing and lip-synching the hit's lyrics – believed to be the first instance of the morphing technique in a music video.
