Largest apartment ship

The largest privately owned residential yacht is the MS The World, which was launched in 2002. It has 165 residential units comprising 106 apartments, 19 studio apartments and 40 studios. While it continuously circumnavigates the world, its residents are able to conduct their professional lives while living and relaxing onboard. The average stay is around three to four months of the year and average occupancy is of the order of 150 residents (with an average age of 65). While not a cruise ship per se, The World’s itinerary is planned almost two years in advance by a committee consisting of residents, captains and a Director of Itinerary and Destination Planning. In 2012, the ship planned to visit 31 different countries. On 30 September 2012, it also became the largest ship to have traversed the Northwest Passage.
