The oldest medallist in an individual event at a Winter Olympic Games is Albert Demchenko (Russia, b. 27 November 1971), who was 42 years 74 days old when he won a silver medal in Luge in Sochi, Russia, on 9 February 2014. Just a few days later, Demchenko – appearing in a record seventh Winter Olympics – won another silver medal in the team event.

The Russian luger announced his retirement at the 2014 games.
