The most gold medals won at the FEI Fencing World Championships, excluding the Olympic Games, is 116, achieved by Italy from 1926 to 2018. They have won 54 in individual events and 62 in team events.
The first Italian fencing gold medallist was Giorgio Chiavacci in 1926. At the 2018 World Championships in Wuxi, China, they won four golds: in men and women's individual foil, women's individual épée and men's team foil.
