The Earth Similarity Index is a ranking system for planetary bodies that rates how similar they are to Earth based on their size, density, escape velocity and surface temperature. The ranking ranges from zero to one, with Earth having a value of 1. To date the extrasolar planet which has been assigned the highest ranking on the Earth Similarity Index is KOI-3284.01, detected by NASA’s Kepler mission in 2012, and with an ESI of 0.9.
