On 9 October 2008 the RT-70 radio telescope at Yevpatoria, Ukraine, sent a radio message targeted at the planet Gliese 581 c, which orbits the star Gliese 581 in the constellation Libra, some 20.3 light years from Earth. The message contains images of famous Earth landmarks and people, as well as 501 text messages submitted by Bebo users. The message, which took around 20 hours to leave the Solar System, is due to reach the planet in 2029.
