The highest margin of victory in a FIFA international football (soccer) tournament is 10, by Spain who beat Tahiti 10–0 in the 2013 Confederations Cup at the Estadio do Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 20 June 2013. Tahiti were surprise qualifiers for the Confederations Cup following their victory in the 2012 OFC Nations Cup. The team of amateurs were praised for their attitude and fair play but were totally outclassed in all three matches. Spain were ruthless in their 10–0 demolition, which saw Fernando Torres score four and David Villa score three – the only time in a Confederations Cup game that two players have scored a hat-trick.

The previous record was held by Hungary, who had won by nine goals in two separate World Cups (1954: 9–0 vs Korea, 1982: 10–1 vs El Salvador) and Yugoslavia who beat Zaire 9–0 in the 1975 World Cup. This record excludes qualifying matches, with the record scoreline in a FIFA qualifier the 31–0 rout of American Samoa by Australia.
