Spain overtook Italy’s previous record of 37 games unbeaten from 2018–2021 in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, when La Roja beat Argentina 1–0 after extra time. Their run began following a 1–0 loss to Colombia in a friendly on 22 March 2024 and included their victorious 2026 World Cup and Euro 2024 campaigns. In the 2025 UEFA Nations League final, Spain lost out on penalties to Portugal after the game had officially ended as a 2–2 draw after extra time.
