The most teams represented at the World Cup by an individual is three and was achieved by Dejan Stankovic, who played for Yugsolavia at the 1998 World Cup, for Serbia and Montenegro at the 2006 World Cup, and for Serbia at the 2010 World Cup. FIFA rules prohibit players from switching nationalities at senior level; however, Dejan Stankovic has represented different countries as the Balkans region has changed politically with more countries becoming independent. In 1998 both Robert Jarni and Robert Prosinecki played for Croatia having also represented Yugoslavia in the 1990 World Cup. Stankovic never managed to help his sides qualify from the group phase playing a total of nine games and winning just three (two with Yugoslavia and one with Serbia).
