The world's most southerly tramway terminus is at East Brighton, on route number 64 at the junction of Hawthorn Road and Nepean Highway in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Melbourne tramway system is built to the standard gauge of 1,435 mm (4 ft 8 1/2 inches) and has a network of 250 km (155.3 miles). Trams have operated in Melbourne since 1884 and are currently managed by KDR trading as Yarra Trams.
