The largest tensile roof – in which elements are only in tension, with no compression or bending – over the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, covers 47,000 m². Completed in 1987 and designed by Ian Fraser Associates, it features 24 roof masts that cantilever 58 m over the seating area, supporting a 246-m-diameter roof shaped like Bedouin tents – all protecting more than 67,000 spectators from the fierce desert climate.
