Ryōgoku Kokugikan is the largest sumo stadium, with a capacity of 11,908. Spectators in the "suna-aburi-seki" ringside seats are so close to the action in the dohyo central ring that they are sprayed with sand during bouts. Located in Tokyo, Japan, the stadium opened in January 1985, and each year holds three of the country’s six official sumo tournaments.
