Brooklands, the world’s first purpose-built motor racing circuit, was opened in Weybridge, UK, on 17 June 1907. Designed by Colonel H. C. L. Holden of the Royal Artillery for local landowner Hugh Locke King at a cost of over £150,000, the 2.75-mile (4.425-km) concrete track boasted two huge 30-degree banked sections 9.1 m (30 ft) high, connected by two 30.5-m-wide (100-ft) straights. An additional "Finishing Straight" brought the total circuit length to 3.25 miles (5.23 km). Today, only sections of the massive banked corners and other parts of the circuit remain.
