The luge, bobsleigh and skeleton track at the Sanki Sliding Centre in Sochi, Russia, constructed for the 2014 Winter Olympics, is the world’s longest, with a maximum competition length of 0.932 miles (1.5 km). First opened in 2012, the track drops 131.9 m (432.74 ft) at an average grade of 9.3% over its 18 curves, along which riders attain speeds up to 83.9 mph (135 km/h) while watched by a maximum of 5,000 spectators. State-of-the-art ice-preparation technology ensures optimum temperature control along the entire track.
