The oldest surviving court for real tennis – a precursor to modern tennis, played on a hard court surrounded by four walls – is located at Falkland Palace in Fife, Scotland. Originally constructed for James V of Scotland between April 1539 and late 1541, it is currently home to the Falkland Palace Royal Tennis Club, formed in 1975. The playing surface measures 29.67 m (97.3 ft) by 10.19 m (33.4 ft).
