Farming takes up land, and as the Earth’s population swells there is concern that there may come a day when there won’t be enough land to farm in order to feed everyone. Vertical farming is a novel solution, which reduces the amount of land a farm takes up by putting the farm inside a high-rise building. In October 2012, the world’s first ever commercial vertical farm opened in Singapore. The site, developed by Sky Greens Farms, consists of 120 9-metre-high aluminium towers, which, in total, can produce 500 kg of vegetables per day.
