Busiest ocean trade route

According to figures published by the World Shipping Council for 2013 (the most recent data available as of 2017), the world’s busiest trade route operates between Asia and North America. During 2013, a total of 7,739,000 cargo containers were transported westbound, and a total of 15,386,000 containers were shipped eastbound – giving a total figure transported of 23,125,000. A total of 73 regular liner services operated along this route. The second busiest trade route was the Asia-Mediterranean route, with a total of 6,739,000 containers passing between the two regions.
