Sixty-year-old Steve Whiteley won an incredible £1,445,671.71 (US$2,356,444.89) on an accumulator bet in which he correctly predicted the winner of all six races at the 8 March 2011 race meeting at Exeter, UK. Mr Whiteley had placed a £2 bet on the Tote Jackpot – a daily bet offered by the Tote in which punters have to pick the first six winners from a nominated meeting. A self-confessed racing novice, his previous biggest racing win was £300. After the meeting, he was quoted as saying: “I’m a heating engineer – well, I was.”
