At Athens 2004 Phelps won individual gold in the 100 m and 200 m butterfly, 200 m and 400 m medley and bronze in the 200 m freestyle. Beijing 2008 saw him pick up gold in the 100 m and 200 m butterfly, 200 m freestyle and 200 m and 400 m medley. In London 2012, he won gold in the 100 m butterfly and 200 m medley and silver in the 200 m butterfly. Most recently, during the Rio 2016 Olympics he won gold in the 200 m butterfly and 200 m medley and silver in the 100 m butterfly.
