Most successful horse racing gambler

The most profitable gambler on horses is widely regarded to be William Benter (USA), who makes some US$10 million per year betting horses at the two tracks in Hong Kong. Trained as a physicist (a subject in which he holds a PhD), Benter used his scientific skills to build a detailed computer model of horse racing that takes into account more than 100 statistics – quantifying horses, jockeys, trainers, tracks and race conditions – in order to calculate each runner’s exact chance of winning a race. Operating since 1987, the system enables Benter to spot horses whose odds are bigger than they should be.
