The largest species of horsetail is the Mexican giant horsetail Equisetum myriochaetum, native to Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru. As of 2013, the largest recorded specimen was 7.3 m tall.
