The first male open-water swimmer to win a FINA World Championships gold medal in every discipline was Thomas Lurz (Germany), who won the 5 km, 10 km and 25 km events from 2005 to 2013.
Thomas Lurz began swimming in the 5 km discipline which he won consecutively from 2005-2011, in 2009 he also picked up the 10 km gold medal. In 2013 he won a gold in the 25 km to complete the set, at that championships he also won a medal in every possible discipline with another gold in the team swim, silver in the 10 km and bronze in the 5 km.
